1 ALEXANDER KADOKO
He was a muganda of the sheep (Ndiga) clan a nephew to Bruno Sserunkuma; the catholic Martyr. He was also called Nanfumbambi. Having been a respected chief, Kadogo was first clubbed on the back of his head to death before his body was placed on the pyre in order to excuse him from a slow and agonizing death.
2 DANIEL NAKABANDWA
A muganda of the Lung fish (Mmamba) clan was a servant to the Queen Mother. It alleged that he was also a relative of Mukaajaanga the chief executioner. He was burnt to death.
3 FREDRICK WIGRAM KIZZA
He was a muganda and he witnessed the martyrdom of Lugalama, Kakumba and Sserwanga as he was in attendance to his chief- Mujaasi, the commander in chief ofthat execution and a Muslim. When the general persecution broke out, his chief advised him to flee but he adamantly refused and as such just like Kadoko, Mbaaga Tuzinde and Nakabandwa, he was clubbed on the head at Namugongo before his body was thrown on the burning pyre.
4 KIFAMUNNYANJA
This name is a derivative from the Kiganda proverb kifa mu nnyanja kimamnyibwa muvubi literally meaning that what is got or dies in the lake is known by the fisherman. He was a royal page and was burnt.
5 KIWANUKA GIZAYA
He was a muganda of the Oribi (Mpeewo) and a victim of the Namugongo martyrdom
6 KWABAFU
He was a royal page of the lungfish clan and by the time of his death at Namugongo he was still a catechumen.
7 LWANGA
A muganda of the bush buck (Ngabi) clan. He was also burnt.
8 MUBI AZAALWA
Mubi (Mubiazaalwa, Musaabattosi, Nzalambi) was of the dog clan who at first renounced his faith but later regretted and professed his allegiance to the Christian faith at the encouragement of Charles Lwanga. He was burnt.
9 MUKASA LWAKISIGA
He belonged to the bush buck clan and was also burnt.
10 MUWANGA NJIGIJA
He was a muganda and the chief of Kitegombwa. He was arrested on 26th may and burnt.
11 NOAR WALUKAGGA
He was a muganda of the Genet (Kasimba) clan and a very intelligent man. He was a royal blacksmith. He was arrested from his home and burnt to death.
12 ROBERT MUNYAGABYANJO
He was 50yrs old of the lungfish clan. He doubled as a palace gatekeeper and a royal messenger. Before being burnt, it is alleged that he was first dismembered then his cut-up body placed in reed mat then flanged onto the pyre.
13 WASSWA
He was a muganda of the lung fish clan and a servant of Gabunga (the commander in chief of the royal fleet and head of the lung fish). He was also burnt.
1 ACHILLES KIWANUKA
He was a page of Muwanga and was also burnt.
2 ADOLPHUS MUKASA LUGIDO
A page for Muteesa and Mwanga. He was also burnt.
3 AMBROSE KIBUUKA
A royal page, who was also burnt.
4 ANATOLI KIRIGGWAJJO
He was burned alive at Namugongo shrines.
5 BURUNO SERUNKUUMA
He was Mwanga’s soldier and was also burned.
6 GYAVIIRA MUSOKE
He was Muwanga’s page also burnt alive.
7 JAMES BUUZABALYAWO
He was the official keeper of the royal well locally called Kalindaluzzi and the assistant bandmaster. He was also burnt alive.
8 KIZITO
A very young page also burned.
9 LUKKA BAANABAKINTU
He was a servant of the county chief of Ssingo known as Mukwenda. He was charged with supervising Mukwenda’s fisheries on lake Wamala. He was burned.
10 MBAGA TUZINDE
He was a relative to Mukaajaanga, was first clubbed on the head then his body thrown onto the pyre.
11 MUGAGGA LUBOWA
A royal page burned.
12 MUKASA KIRIWAWANVU
A royal page burnt alive.
1 DAVID MUWANGA
He was a muganda of the Otter (Ngonge) clan although some say he was of the Lugave Clan (Pangolin). He was butchered at Namanve forest on MAY 27TH 1886.
2 JOSEPH LUGALAMA
He was from Ankole and aged between 11-12 years. Like Mark, he was also arrested and martyred in the same way and date at Mpiimeerebera on Saturday morning JAN 31ST 1885.
3 MARK KAKUMBA
He was muganda aged between 15-16 years. He was arrested together with Lugalama and Sserwanga on Friday 30th January 1885 by the king’s soldiers under the authority of the Prime minister. He was burnt at Mpiimeerebera (Busega) execution site, one of the 13 official execution sites similar to Namugongo situated on Kampala Masaka highway. His hands were cut off then tied on a scaffold hanging over a fire hence suffering a very slow and painful death on Saturday morning 31st January 1885. He was the first Christian to die for his faith.
4 NUWA SERWANGA
He was a muganda of the colobus clan and aged about 17 years. He was arrested on the same day as Mark Kakumba and Joseph Lugalama and martyred in the same way and place. Unlike his two colleagues, he did not plead with his executioners not to cut of his hands but bore all the torture in silence to death on JAN 31ST 1885.
5 BISHOP JAMES HUNNINGTON
He was speared and killed in Mayuge in Busoga at the orders of King Mwanga on the OCTOBER 29TH 1885.
6 MOSES MUKASA
He was the first protestant victim to be martyred on Tuesday 25th May 1886. He was a muganda of the Civet cat (Ffumbe) clan. He was killed at Munyonyo near the king’s well and his body was buried at Mulungu port where the first protestant missionaries landed on 30th June 1877.
7 MUDDE AGUMA
He was a muganda and was killed on 27th may 1886 at mengo. He was brutally tortured and died a very painful death in pain that lasted nearly three days.
8 ELIAS MBWA
He belonged to the sheep clan and was also known as Musammula a name given to the chief of Kisammula village. He was arrested on 26th May 1886 and sentenced for burning at Namugongo but on the way, king Mwanga ordered that he be taken to Munyonyo and be castrated on 27th May 1886. It is said he languished in terrible pain for nearly three days and most likely died on 29th May 1886.
9 KAYIZZI KIBUUKA
He was a muganda of the lungfish clan and a pillar of the protestant faith in Mityana. He was killed on Monday 31 st may 1886 by Mbugano.
10 MAYANJA KATOOGO
A muganda of the Civet Cat (Ffumbe) clan. He was killed on 31st may 1886.
11 OMUWANGA OF GABUNGA
He was a muganda of the Seed (Katinvuma) clan. He was the assistant of the admiral of the king’s fleet he was speared on 31ST May 1886 in Mitiyana.
12 ARCHBISHOP JANANI LUWUMU
He was brutally murdered February 17TH 1977 during the Dictatorship of Idd Amin Dada, the then despotic ruler of Uganda.
13 JOSEPH MUKASA BALIKUDDEMBE
He was the head of the Catholics when the Catholic missionaries left for over two years. He was beheaded then burnt on the 15th November 1885 at Nakivubo, which is the present day Balikuddembe Market formerly called Owino market.
14 DENIS SSEBUGWAWO
He was a page for both Muteesa I and Mwanga. He was tortured by King Muwanga and hacked to death by Mpinga’s men; Matembe and Mulyowa ,on 26th may 1886 at Munyonyo.
15 ANDREW KAGGWA
He was a master general in the king’s band. His hand was first cut off and taken to the Prime Minister Mukasa as a proof of his death-before he was cut to pieces on 26th May 1886.
16 PONSIANO NGONWE
He was speared by Mukaajaanga, his head cut off by Sittankya. His body was cut into pieces at Ttakajjunge on 26th may 1886.
17 GONZAGO GONZA
Mukaajaanga speared him to death at Lubaawo junction after his failing to walk because his legs and feet were bleeding as a result of the chains that had got stuck into the flesh. This was 4 miles before reaching the Namugongo execution site.
18 ATTANASIUS BAZZEKUKETA
He was a royal page in charge of the King’s treasury. He was also killed at Nakivubo like Balikuddembe.
19 MATHIAS MULUMBA KALUMBA
He was a sub-county chief of Ssingo and he suffered the most painful brutal and longest lingering death of approximately 3 days. His limbs were cut off and flesh stripped of his back this happened from 27th to 30th may 1886. He was martyred from old Kampala near Alidina’s house, an Indian who established the first retail shop in Kampala. His body was taken into a thicket of elephant grass.
20 NOAH MAWAGGALI
He was a maker of earthen ware for Mukwenda, the county chief of Ssingo he was speared on 31 st May 1886 and his body eaten by savage village dogs in Mityana at Luke Baanabakintu’s house .
21 CHARLES LWANGA
He was the chief of the royal pages and was martyred at Namugongo – Busaale a few miles from the Namugongo main execution site. Ssenkoole, the deputy chief executioner, killed him on 3rd June 1886. Ssenkoole was Charles Lwanga’s main adversary whose feud arose from the digging of the Kabaka’s Lake.
22 JOHN MARY MUZEEYI
Was Muteesa’s special doctor- a herbalist. It is said that together with Balikuddembe, he baptised King Muteesa I when he was at the verge of death, he was beheaded and his body thrown into Jugula swamp on 27th January 1886.
23 BLESSED GILDO IRWA
Was a catechist and was speared to death in Paimol Kitgum District, northern Uganda on 18th October 1918.
24 BLESSED DAUDI OKELLO
A catechist was also speared to death together with Gildo Irwa on 18th October 1918.
